Try a little Fresh Air this holiday season…
OK, so I know the title is a little “off subject” but it was meant to grab your attention
Now that I have it, I’d like to tell you about the Fresh Air Fund.
The Fresh Air Fund is an independent, not-for-profit agency, which provided free summer vacations to more than 1.7 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877.
Nearly 10,000 New York City children enjoy free Fresh Air Fund programs annually. In 2008, close to 5,000 children visited volunteer host families in suburbs and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada. 3,000 children also attended five Fresh Air camps on a 2,300-acre site in Fishkill, New York. The Fund’s year-round camping program serves an additional 2,000 young people each year.
Sarah, the Outreach Coordinator, asked me to be so kind as to do a small post about Fresh Air, and after I did a little research, I have to admit - these guys are great, and they are doing a great thing.
I am fortunate enough to be able to live in a great area of the country (North Carolina) but I can only imagine what it must be like not to see fields, barns, countryside, and - yes - smell the fresh air. Everyone should be able to enjoy this, and if you agree, then I strongly suggest that you visit the Fresh Air Fund website http://freshair.smnr.us
There you’ll learn a whole lot more about this great organization and learn how you can help a child experience the great Fresh Air.
